Profile/Rim Lighting
What is it?
Profile Lighting is when half of a subject's face is lit up by a light and the other half is dark. The light is split evenly across the subjects face. Used for portraits because of how if it is used right can emphasize parts of the subject and bring out certain features.
How to use it
It can be set up by having the subject at a 90 degree angle from the camera. Then place a light at a 45 degree angle from the subjects face. For the most part having the light at head height works the best. Best if used against dark background.
